Educational Programs

JSWCD is a sponsor of Forestry In The Classroom along with the Chipola Sportmen's Club and Beef O'Brady's of Marianna. The District Coordinator works with the schools in Jackson County to schedule teams of Foresters and Landowners to teach 'Goods from the Woods' to fourth graders during Forestry Week in October yearly.

JSWCD is also a sponsor of 4-H Ag Adventures. Several sponsors help put on a 2-day event that teaches the 1st graders of Jackson County about the ag-related commodities their county produces, and the career opportunities associated with ag. The kids and teachers are escorted through a variety of stations to learn and do fun activities. In November 2023 the kids learned about, Dairy and Beef cows, Corn with a Corn Maze, Soil Conservation, Cotton, Peanuts, Pollinators, and Forestry.

JSWCD also partners with 4-H and FFA with Land judging every March. The schools send their teams to this local level competition, where they earn awards and receive the experience of being in a land judging competition. The teachers then know who their strongest team members are to send to state and hopefully national competitions.

JSWCD also coordinates with the Ag Agents at the Extension Office with their events. We set up a table with information about JSWCD and the NRCS office that we work closely with to meet with the producers at the events and answer questions.
